The earlyish 19th Century ushered in a new epoch of liberties and freedom. Although the United States Constitution stated that all man is created equal, it seemed to have out women. Women were always seen as inferior to man because of their pretermit of education, masculinity and political knowledge. Womens rights only seem to descend worse after the transition, as Americas political parties started to gain national power. In Sarah Grimkes Letters on the Equality of the Sexes we can see that she supports Rosemarie Zagarris revolutionary cringe: Women and Politics in the Early American Republic book, because of the thinks they overlap about trust and womens rights. One can grow from Sarah Grimkes letters and Rosemarie Zagarris book that the Revolution and religion sparked a backlash for women.
During the colonial years it was traditionally theme that women were suppose to clean, cook and take care of the children. The early settlers were alike very religious in their family and social structure. Sarah Grimke mentions this ways of support in her second letter. Elite white men had control over all aspects of life in the colonies, but as the Revolution was approaching womens rights was becoming a pressing matter. As women became more educated and involved in the public sphere, men started to worry about womens role in society.
